REMISSION: OFFICIAL STATEMENT
as we close the door on 2010, DOOMSDAY VIRUS announces that we will also be closing up shop, at least for a while, and entering into a period of remission, an "indefinite hiatus" of sorts. we will not be writing, recording, or playing shows during this time. updates will likely be few and far between, unless something unexpected and groundbreaking occurs, or we stumble across something in the vault that is worth sharing and hasn't been posted yet.
we've simply gone as far as we can go, and for personal reasons as various as the persons involved, we can't go any further at this time. continuing to push would do more harm than it would do good. before any rumors start, we want to be clear that remain on positive terms with each other, and stress that this isn't so much a "break up" as it is a "time out". we're all at very different places in our own lives right now and need to focus our remaining energy and sanity on taking care of ourselves as individuals before we can worry about ourselves as a band.
there are several other factors, on a professional level, that are making it difficult, if not impossible to continue, as well. however, it would be a waste of time to go into much detail about that here. we could bitch and whine about the current state of the record industry making it impossible to make a living (or at least make us sustainable) off of recorded music, but there are others who find a way.
touring extensively and relentlessly, selling merchandise to compensate, the way musicians have done for centuries before recorded music, is one option. unfortunately, for us, it's not a very realistic option, because we all have obligations that prevent us from doing so. the timing is all wrong for that, on a number of levels, from where we are in our personal lives, to the state of the economy, to the lack of label support. labels themselves are dying off, and we've always found ourselves "too electronic" for the rock labels and "too rock" for the electronic labels anyway. unwilling to compromise, we've pinned ourselves in this tiny niche, but it's never been about making a fortune, it's been about making music, spreading that music, and having fun doing so. we've currently come to an impasse on all three of those fronts. so it's time to pull back.
our timeline for the future is open-ended and uncertain. we will never say this is "the end" only to have a reunion tour in 6 months. in music, "the end", is seldom ever really the end. there are new beginnings and i'm sure we'll all have ours, whether together or separate, in 6 weeks, 6 months, or 6 years. this isn't a business, it's not something you can plan, or chart, or graph. music is art, it simply happens when it wants too, when it NEEDS to, and it will happen again someday, because it's something greater than us, something beyond our control. no matter what you think, or how hard you can try, there will always be one truth that can never, ever be denied...
...you can't stop the virus!!
